HISTORY

At international level, one of the most challenging industrial challenges is the decommissioning or disabling of nuclear plants.

The remarkable experience gained over the last few decades, with the numerous decommissioning operations carried out successfully in various parts of the world and different types of nuclear plants, clearly demonstrates that nuclear plants can be deactivated, and dismantled in absolute safety at the end of their operational life.

About 300 reactors will be decommissioned by 2020, of which more than 70 in Europe, which explicitly reveals the importance and relevance of the subject.

It is in this context that Copav Nucleare, a division of Copav (www.copav.it), is born and today boasts over 20 years of specific experience in the transport of radioactive and fissile material has always been a strategic organization of significant importance in this sector.

Since the 90’s, when this important service activity began, a team of highly specialized people dedicated to the design, organization and management of the whole chain involved in this delicate matter has been created.

Copav Nucleare makes transport of radioactive and fissile material stored in containers, guaranteeing a service of absolute precision and always meeting the necessary expectations of this delicate matter.

The nature of radioactive and fissile substances is such that it needs to pay particular attention to the environment, personnel involved and compliance with relevant regulations: factors requiring specific technical skills.

In recent years, our technical knowledge has also been needed on several occasions during the design of structures for the transport of containers containing radioactive material placed inside containers.

Copav Nucleare has always given the utmost importance to the training of the staff involved in this service, guaranteeing services and interventions based on a careful design and meeting the highest quality and safety standards.

Vehicles, consisting of road tractors and specific trailers for containers, are 20, all of the latest generation and recently registered, regularly revised and checked periodically to ensure maximum mechanical efficiency.

Currently, the department is comprised of 12 drivers, all of whom have ADR specialty Class 7, highly trained personnel, trained for this specific activity, physically and technically fit to carry radioactive and fissile material, with multi-year experience both nationally and international.

In addition, also the interior design personnel, planning and coordination staff are constantly trained in the transport of radioactive and fissile materials, forming a well-known workgroup together with the drivers, which can guarantee the highest level of service to the customer. Support for carrying out authorization procedures related to the detention, use and transportation of radioactive and fissile materials.

Since January 26, 2017, Copav holds a regular permit for the carriage of radioactive and fissile materials, TT / 6261/16/0 issued by the Ministry of Economic Development.
